Seeking Interns for Executive Operations, Marketing, Design and Events!

Black Tech Nation

The social good organization creating and growing a black tech ecosystem in the Pittsburgh region. BTN is moving the tech industry towards inclusion through events, programming, and partnerships with prominent institutions, companies, nonprofits and government entities. Starting in August 2018, we will begin hosting a series of monthly events in partnership with Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Computer Science – the #1 computer science school in the country. We’re also working tirelessly to garner support from big tech companies such as Google, Uber, UPMC, and others. We’re looking for someone like you to help us grow and introduce the BTN brand to a wider audience within the tech industry, both locally and nationally.

The new startup focusing on building a community and a professional services organization relating to blockchain. Though starting local in Pittsburgh, their ambitions are to expand in the near future. Over the next few months, they plan to roll out: executive education and corporate training’s, consistent community events ranging from social events, build nights, white paper reviews, presentations, and other events desires by the community; and digital content. The two founders of D49 (Kelauni Cook and Eugene Leventhal) have been organizing events both for the professional developer and university communities throughout 2017 and 2018.

Executive Operations Intern

Are you a young person with dreams of running your own business one day? Want to be a part of rapidly growing social good organization based in Pittsburgh with plans to expand? Interested in perfecting your craft, expanding your professional network, and making a difference within an entire industry? Black Tech Nation (BTN) is seeking an Executive Operations intern for August 2018- December 2018 to work directly with the executive director and the BTN team. While we encourage college students to apply, you do not need to be enrolled in school to apply. We believe that talent also lies outside of the education system.

  • Ability to help create well-written sponsorship proposals and press releases
  • Understanding of Google calendar, sheets, slides, etc.
  • Forward thinking and creative

  • Assist Executive Director and BTN team with overall organizational duties
  • Help create the branding and marketing strategy for various events and projects
  • Draft copy for various project requests (i.e. proposals, sponsorships, etc.)
  • Solicit relationships with targeted organizations and potential sponsors
  • Communicate regularly with potential and current business partners
  • Collect, organize, and maintain data of our membership; maintain the customer relationship management system(s).
  • Create and disseminate press releases for BTN projects and events (locally and nationally)
  • Correspond frequently with local and national journalists/media outlets on behalf of BTN
  • Contribute to social media accounts
  • Accompany the founder to various meetings via video conference (optional)
  • Create lists of resources for various projects
  • Respond to media requests
  • Work closely with BTN Social Media and Engagement intern on marketing strategies for various projects
  • Assist BTN Social Media and Engagement intern with newsletter – specifically advertisements and BTN organizational updates.
  • Attend specific CMU and BTN events in Pittsburgh (tentative)
  • Other tasks TBD (to be determined)

Marketing & Design Intern

      A creative thinker who eat, sleeps, and breathes creative design

      Can design graphics as needed by the team

      Isn’t afraid to voice his/her ideas and knows how to communicate them effectively

      Comfortable working in a fast-paced, unpredictable startup environment

      Works well with teams, especially under stressful deadlines

      Knowledgeable in social media marketing

      Knowledgeable about social media software like Buffer and Hootsuite

      Knowledgeable about social posting software like Snapseed and Canva

      Very organized; likes to make clear to-do lists and stick to them

      Technically savvy – comfortable using Google Suite, Mailchimp, Slack, and Trello (we can potentially train you)

      Has previous design experience (please respond with links to your previous work)

      Create graphics and designs for all digital and physical materials for sponsorships, presentations, events, online content, and social media campaigns.

      Work closely with BTN Executive Operations Intern on marketing designs and materials for various events

Events Intern

Have you heard about blockchain? Want to learn more while getting involved in growing the blockchain community here in Pittsburgh?! Distributed49 (D49) is launching in Pittsburgh and we’re currently looking for an Events Intern beginning September 1st and ending December 14th, with the option of continuing into 2019. The role is unpaid with a strong possibility to turn into a paid part-time position. Time commitment will fall between 10-15 hours per week.

We are currently looking for an Events intern who will assist the two founders, with various tasks relating to the community we’re building in Pittsburgh.

An ideal candidate will be someone who:

      Wants to learn more about blockchain

      Is a motivated, self-starter who wants to get into the blockchain space, or to build their network in the space

      Is a clear communicator (oral and especially written)

      Is at least a college freshman (18+ years old)

      Has previous events experience is a plus, but not required

      Organized with documentation and communication 

The responsibilities of the intern will include:

      Assisting with the overall event strategy

      Coordinating on the logistics of upcoming events

      Interacting with community members and partners to get a clear understanding of what events work best and what new events need to be introduced

      Planning specific events and reaching out to potential speakers

      Maintaining an events calendar

      Attending the events and building relationships with current and potential community members

      Mapping blockchain startups that should be showcased and assisting with outreach

      Keeping track of all public blockchain related events going on in Pittsburgh

      Thinking of new event series based on interest from members

      Assisting with content creation as it pertains to the events

  • Attend specific D49 events in Pittsburgh (as necessary)
